Julia Andrews

Her work is a joyful exploration of music and dance expressed through screen printing.

Her recent work is a exploration of common experience through music, dance and joyful escapisms. Like many of us we have a ‘soundtrack’ to our lives, that accompany us no matter how small or large, private or public ( like kitchen dancing alone or festival dancing ‘en masse’) that is a common, uplifting experience.

As expressed by Nick Cave, ‘there is a capacity to experience enormous joy in life that you had no idea about…it’s not a simple word’. Her latest prints continue to explore the human experience by looking at mental health and personal freedoms.

Using drawings, her own photography of long suffering family members mixed with sourced images she creates screen-prints and mono-prints backed with colour and pattern.

Dilla trained at KIAD ( now UCA ) Canterbury and Rochester Art Colleges studying fashion and went on to work in textile, clothing and print design for the fashion industry, working for companies such as M&S, Arcadia, Jaegar, Margaret Howell and John Lewis.

She has also worked closely with the art industry in galleries, such as Flowers East and is currently a director of Pendragon Frames who produce bespoke framing for galleries, artists and museums which was founded by her partner in 1995.

She has exhibited widely, most recently at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, selling out a limited edition of 50 in the first 2 weeks.
