Ginkaku-ji, Kyoto, Japan
Gold leaf is applied to the prints, as it is applied to the temples themselves, to purify and protect them from negativity
My recent travels to Japan have inspired this series of prints. I was drawn to the tranquility of the temples and the carefully curated landscapes surrounding them. Using numerous layers of screen printing, I have built up a painterly image to convey the stillness and beauty I found there.
This screen print of Ginkaku-ji temple, Kyoto was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and was exhibited in the ING Discerning Eye exhibition.
14 colour screen print with gold leaf printed on 30x40cm paper from an edition of 50.
