Dandelion seed
A huge and monumental yet delicate dandelion seed
Etching printed on 76 x 56cm Somerset Satin paper, 300g from an edition of 40
This etching has been engraved on the largest sheet of zinc I can fit on my press. I liked the idea of turning a small and delicate dandelion seed into something huge and monumental. It started as an observational pencil sketch which I then re-drew onto a grounded zinc plate using an etching needle. Tone and texture has been created by cross-hatching, adding a soft ground and also by leaving on or polishing off ink in areas. The plate is inked each time and handcrafted using a press, making each number in the small edition unique.
